Color, a layer deep.
An angle-dependent thin-film material for React. Explore thickness, IOR and spectral color on a smooth WebGPU surface, with editable studio lighting.
Part of Aperveil Pro · Coming soon. The live demo, editor and downloads will open in a later release. Free shaders and blocks are available now.
THE SYSTEM BEHIND THE SURFACE
Inside Thin-Film Lab.
Thin Film Lab evaluates thin-film reflection across wavelength samples and varies it with thickness and viewing angle. A controlled thickness field changes the coating without a crumpled normal texture.
It is a bounded real-time material approximation, not a calibrated measurement tool or a general spectral renderer. It does not load GLTF materials.
5.079 ms GPU timestamp median; p95 8.978 ms. 1440x900 @ dpr 1.5; Metal driver on macOS Version 26.6.2 (Build 25G83); measured 2026-09-06. This is a recorded headless sample, not a browser FPS or mobile-performance guarantee.
Roughness
Softness of the reflections; higher values give a duller satin.
Surface curvature
How domed the surface is; more curvature bends the highlights across it.
Light angle
Direction of the studio light, in degrees.
Light spread
Size of the studio's area light; larger lights give broader, softer highlights.
Color Looks preserve these settings. Open the editor for all 18 controls.
APERVEIL PRO
Coming soon.
This Pro surface's demo, editor and downloads will open in a later release. Free shaders and blocks are available now.

Made for a real interface.
Build an optical-material showcase for a product studio. Let a short technical heading sit beside the broad interference highlight and explain the coating controls below.

An exploration of light and material
Look beyond the surface.
A visual notebook for shifting color, quiet reflections and the surprises held in a very thin layer.
An illustrative layout. Your content stays in HTML; the shader sets the atmosphere.
