Hidden forces. Visible color.
Explore photoelastic-inspired color in WebGPU. Local cursor pressure reveals optical lobes shaped by retardance, polarization and a softly lit surface.
Part of Aperveil Pro · Coming soon. The live demo, editor and downloads will open in a later release. Free shaders and blocks are available now.
THE SYSTEM BEHIND THE SURFACE
Inside Polarized Stress.
Polarized Stress builds an analytic stress field and uses its principal direction to shape a polarization-inspired interference response. Retardance changes the color bands; local pointer pressure reveals new lobes without replacing the surface with an unrelated hover effect.
This is a photoelastic-inspired visual model, not finite-element analysis, a calibrated stress meter or an engineering safety tool. The colors are artistic optical cues, not stress units.
No published timing sample. Profile this effect on your target devices.
Stress scale
Density of the stress pattern; higher values give smaller, more numerous lobes.
Position
Adjust position in the editor. The default is [0.5,0.5].
Optical retardance
How many colour orders the stress produces; higher values add more, tighter fringes.
Internal tension
Overall strength of the stress in the material.
Color Looks preserve these settings. Open the editor for all 14 controls.
APERVEIL PRO
Coming soon.
This Pro surface's demo, editor and downloads will open in a later release. Free shaders and blocks are available now.
Explore shadersTHE SURFACE IN CONTEXT
Made for a real interface.
Frame an experimental-materials journal, a research studio or an optical exhibition. Pair the luminous field with short, precise observations and use the lower sections for the technical explanation.

An invitation to look closer
Discover the forces within.
A visual journal of ordinary materials behaving in extraordinary ways. Follow the light to find what usually stays hidden.
An illustrative layout. Your content stays in HTML; the shader sets the atmosphere.
