THE SYSTEM BEHIND THE SURFACE
Inside Glass Medusae.
A delicate glass bell contracts before each upward glide. Light travels further through the gel where the surface turns away, so each bell stays clear at its centre and glows at its edges, catches a strip of daylight as a long highlight and carries a faint light deep inside. Four folded oral arms and eight trailing tentacles move with a delayed rhythm through open water lit by slow shafts from above, while nearby pointer motion sends a gentle current through the form.
An art-directed mesh animation, not a fluid solver or biological simulation. Refraction samples the rendered scene, not the HTML behind it.
No published timing sample. Profile this effect on your target devices.
Count
How many jellyfish swim in the scene.
Size
Size of each jellyfish.
Depth spread
How far apart the jellyfish sit in depth; more spread makes the distant ones smaller.
Ascent speed
How fast the jellyfish rise with each pulse; 0 keeps them in place.
